Chapter 20

Millennium Reign of Christ

Great White Throne Judgment

BEFORE THE MILLENNIUM REIGN

Revelation 20:1

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

This is the same angel from Revelation 9:1. He has maintained the “key to the pit” throughout the Tribulation period.

Revelation 20:2-3

And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, … till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Satan is cast into the bottomless pit. He is bound and a seal is set upon him. This will be for only 1000 years and then he will be let loose for a “little season”. The antichrist and false prophet have already been thrown into the “lake of fire”.

FIRST RESURRECTION

This is the “conclusion” of the First Resurrection. Which started with Jesus’s resurrection as the “first fruits”. It included those that were resurrected at that point, those in the rapture (both those alive and dead that are followers of Christ), the two witnesses of Revelation and the tribulation martyrs. This resurrection includes ONLY those that believe in God.

Revelation 20:4

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

A period of 1000 years where those that were martyr for Christ during the Tribulation period will now sit on thrones and reign with Christ during this period.

Revelation 20:5-6

But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

But the rest of the dead will not be resurrected until after the Millennium reign is over

Revelation 20:7

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

Satan has been bound for 1000 years in the pit. He has has no influence on those that have been born during the 1000 years. Those individuals have now had 1000 years of God’s rule. Will they now throw that away? They will be given a choice just as man has been given a choice today.

Revelation 20:8

And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

Satan will once again “round up” an army to once again attempt to take on God. The army will be as numerous as the sand of the sea. That many people will say no to the Godly rule they have seen for 1000 years!

Gog and Magog are still in existence at the end of the Millennial reign, because they now join Satan against God. This is seen by Ezekiel and written in Ezekiel chapters 32; 38; 39.

Revelation 20:9

And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

THE BELOVED CITY

Once again encircled by an enemy!

Revelation 20:10

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

SATAN IS NOW CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE to join the Antichrist and the False Prophet.

SECOND RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD

Those that are still in the grave are those that are left who wanted nothing to do with God BUT will now stand before Him for judgment.

Revelation 20:11

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

Even the earth and heaven FLEES from the face of God!

Revelation 20:12-13

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Everyone at this judgment will be found GUILTY. They would not have been in this resurrection if they were believers in God. Those were ALREADY resurrected. This is the judgment of the dead. All will now have been resurrected.

Revelation 20:14

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Death and Hell are Physical/Spiritual Beings. They are now cast into the lake of fire and now join: Antichrist, False Prophet, Satan. As promised: the SECOND DEATH.

Revelation 20:15

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Those found guilty are cast into the lake of fire to keep company with: Antichrist, False Prophet, Satan, Death and Hell for Eternity.
