The Second Coming of Christ

Compiled by WD Kemner March 2024

The Second Coming is a term referring to the point in time when Jesus Christ will return as He promised. Matthew 24; Mark 13; Luke 21:20-28 are parallel passages to one another. They were all written by the men who heard the discourse by Jesus after he had been asked about the end days.

Jesus talks about the conditions that will exist before His Return and then give full details of His Coming Back.  Who would know the most about His coming back than the man Himself.

See the study done on Matthew Chapters 24-25 for more information.

The prophet Joel uses the phrase “The Day of the Lord” in Joel Chapter 2 to reference the event. This same term is used by many other writers in the Bible. Regardless of the term given, it will be a Day that will have the world’s attention.

Both Isaiah (Isaiah 10:17) and Zechariah (Chapter 3:8-10 and Chapter 14:6-7) talk about the events of Revelation 19 and Joel Chapter 2 as occurring in a single literal “DAY”.

It will be a day to fulfill God’s promises to His chosen people Israel. He has been patient with them and now is time for the end.  This can be seen in the writings of Isaiah and many other passages. Many of the prophets like Zechariah chapters 12-14 summarized that day.

WHEN WILL THAT DAY ARRIVE

First Thessalonians is a letter that the Apostle Paul wrote. In it he concludes each chapter with a reminder of the return of Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-8 Watching and waiting for his return.

Acts 1:11 His return will be like he went.

Isaiah 29:5 “…it shall be at an instant suddenly.”

Zechariah 14:7 This is a day known to the Lord. It will not be day or night but at evening it shall be light.

Joel 2:30-31 “And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.”

Isaiah 13:3-6 His armies are prepared. From all over heaven coming for battle with the weapons of His indignation to destroy the earth.

Isaiah 18:3 “…ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet…”

Jesus was the “ensign” when he was lifted up upon the cross.  Jesus is the one to “blow a trumpet” at His return!

God is taking a rest (period of time) to consider and look at the harvest that SHOULD be taking place.

Isaiah 24 Song for the Second Coming

Isaiah 25 Celebration of the Second Coming

Isaiah 30:18-22 The Lord has “waited” and been patient

Matthew 10:23 “…for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.”

All of Israel will not have been reached for Jesus BEFORE Jesus returns a SECOND TIME.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 Events that will occur PRIOR to Jesus coming back.  The Antichrist must be revealed and proclaim himself God within the Jewish temple.

THE DAY OF HIS RETURN

Jesus will be front and center leading the way on that day and he gave us the description of what will occur in Matthew 24:29-31.

The sun moon and stars will also announce His arrival. This will be occurring after the last of the Seals and Trumpets of John’s Revelation have occurred which saw stars falling and darkness.

Isaiah 29:6 There will be NOISE! Thunderings, earthquakes and “…flame of devouring fire.”

IT WILL BE DARK per Matthew’s account and also:

Isaiah 13:10 “For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.”

Amos 8:9 “…sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in clear day.”

Joel 2:2 “A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.”

Isaiah 2:10-22 Man will not be able to hide from God. He will destroy all idols.

Isaiah 42:13-15 “…he shall cry, yea, roar;…I have long time holden my peace; I have been still and refrained myself: now will I cry…”

Jeremiah 12:14-17 God warns the nations ahead of time that His children are being sent into captivity for their sins. Those nations will be judged for their treatment of the Jews.  He also tells those nations that He (God) will be returning (first advent not even happened yet) and IF they had learned from their captive Jews to follow God then their nation wont be destroyed and they will be “grafted” into the Jewish nation!

Jeremiah 30:23-24  “Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked. The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.”

Zechariah 9:14 “And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.”

Zechariah 14:4-5 “And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south...”

Micah 1:2-4 “…behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth. And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.”

Matthew 16:27 (Parallel Passages: Mark 8:38-9:1; Luke 9:26-27)

“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”

The Second Coming will include the saints from the Rapture and the Angels from Heaven.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-8 “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:”

Jude 14-15 “…the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all…”

Revelation 1:7 “Behold he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also that pierced him.”

Revelation 19:11-14 The redeemed saints and angels of Heaven coming to battle.

THE DAY CONTINUES…

The return of Jesus Christ will usher in what prophets like Joel refer to as the “Day of the Lord”.  Jesus will be at the forefront leading His armies and before that day is done the Earth will be cleansed.

What is in store for the world when The Son of God Arrives that day? To find out more:
