Second Coming of Christ
Compiled by WD Kemner March 2025
The “Second Coming” is a term referring to the point in time when Jesus Christ will return as He promised. Matthew 24; Mark 13; Luke 21:20-28 are parallel passages to one another. They were all written by the men who heard the discourse by Jesus after he had been asked about the end days. Jesus talks about the conditions that will exist before His Return and then gives full details of His Coming Back. Who would know the most about His coming back than the man Himself.
God warned the nations ahead of time that His children were being sent into captivity for their sins. Those nations would be judged for their treatment of the Jews. He also told those nations that He (God) would be returning (first advent not even happened yet) and IF they had learned from their captive Jews to follow God then their nation would not be destroyed and they would be “grafted” into God’s family! Jeremiah 12:14-17.
When is this Day Coming?
Zechariah 14:7 This is a day known ONLY to the Lord.
Matthew 10:23 All of Israel will not have been “evangelized” for Jesus BEFORE Jesus returns a SECOND TIME. Jesus was talking to his disciples when he said this. It was not evangelized prior to Jerusalem being destroyed In 70 A.D.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-8 His coming will be sudden as a thief in the night.
Paul concludes each chapter of First Thessalonians with a reminder of the return of Christ.
Joel 2:1-2 “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.”
Isaiah 18:3 Jesus was the “ensign” when he was lifted up upon the cross. Jesus is the one to “blow a trumpet” at His return!
God is taking a rest (period of time) to consider and look at the harvest that SHOULD be taking place.
Isaiah 26:20-21 “…For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.”
Isaiah 29:5 When He comes “…it shall be at an instant suddenly.”
Isaiah 30:18-22 The Lord has “waited” and been patient.
Isaiah 30:27-30 “Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire: And his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to sift the nations… the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.”
Isaiah 42:13-15 “The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies. I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once. I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.”
Isaiah 62:1-3 “For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.”
There are events that will occur PRIOR to the Second Coming.
Amos 8:11-13
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.”
There will be a day when there is a FAMINE of the WORD of GOD! No matter where one goes, the WORD of GOD is not found. It can be searched for but it is not there. This is not a reference to the “lack of churches” or “lack of preachers”. This is a statement that it will be EASY to find man’s interpretation of the Bible BUT IT WILL BECOME DIFFICULT TO FIND THE REAL GENUINE WORD OF GOD.
Matthew 24:29-31 Jesus gave us the description of what will be occurring at the time of His return.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 The Antichrist must be revealed and proclaim himself God within the Jewish temple.
Geological Signs when He Returns
There will be plenty of signs in the sky to alert the entire planet that something is happening! The sun moon and stars will also announce His arrival.
The Seven Vials of John’s Revelation 15-16 are at this point of time being poured out upon man. Six seals have been opened. Terror has already come upon man. The opening of the Sixth Seal in Revelation 6 will cause the sun to go dark. Stars will fall from the sky. Total darkness causes total chaos on the planet.
This WILL HAPPEN just prior to the Return of the Messiah. When Christ comes, He will be all the light that is needed. It will be difficult not to see PURE LIGHT in pure darkness!
Isaiah 13:10-12 “For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.”
Isaiah 13:13-14 “Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land.”
Isaiah 29:6 “…flame of devouring fire.” There will be NOISE! Thunderings, earthquakes
Isaiah 60:1-2 “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.”
Amos 8:9 “…sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in clear day.”
Joel 2:2 “A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.”
Joel 2:30-32“And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.”
Joel 3:15-16 “The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.”
THE RETURN
Matthew 16:27 (Parallel Passages: Mark 8:38-9:1; Luke 9:26-27)
“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”
The Second Coming will include the saints from the Rapture and the Angels from Heaven.
2 Thessalonians 1:7-8 “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:”
Jude 14-15 “…the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all…”
Revelation 1:7 “Behold he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also that pierced him.”
Zechariah 9:14 “And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.”
Micah 1:2-4 “…behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth. And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.”
Revelation 19:11-14 “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.”
THE DAY CONTINUES…
The return of Jesus Christ will usher in what prophets like Joel refer to as the “Day of the Lord”. Jesus will be at the forefront leading His armies and before that day is done the Earth will be cleansed.
