CIRCUMCISION
Webster Dictionary 1828 Definition:
CIRCUMCISE, verb transitive To cut off the prepuce or foreskin of males; a ceremony or rite in the Jewish and Mohammedan religions. The word is applied also to a practice among some nations of performing a like operation upon females.

Paul has taken up the fight for the Gentiles and legalism of the law. The Jews were strict in their belief of following the letter of the law and that all non-Jews would need to submit to circumcision in order to follow Christ. The reader may need to review the events of Acts chapter 15 and also Galatians chapter 2.
Galatians 6:12-16 Those that required Circumcision do so to glorify in it. In Christ, neither is important.
