Prophecies of the Coming Messiah
Compiled by WD Kemner March 2025
These are ONLY the ones in the Book of Isaiah thus far!
Isaiah 4:2
In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.
“…shall the branch…” also used in Isaiah 11:1.
Jesus is the coming High Priest and the Branch that will build the Temple.
See this foretold by the prophets Zechariah 3:8 and 6:12 and Jeremiah chapters 23 and 33.
Isaiah 7:10-13
Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying, Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD. And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
God is going to give Him the greatest sign any man could have been given.
Isaiah 7:14-16
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good. For before the child shall know to refuse the evil,
and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.
Immanuel will be born of a virgin.
Verse 16 is yet another time predictor for the birth of the Messiah.
Neither Israel nor Judah will have a “king” when this birth occurs.
When Jesus was born in Bethleham, Herod was king.
Herod was not of Jewish kingly blood, but instead “appointed” by Rome.
This prophecy was fulfilled.
Isaiah 9:6-7
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Often read at Christmas programs. Referring to the Birth of the Christ child nearly 600 years before His birth!
“born to us” – not to “Judah”. He was promised to be of the lineage of Abraham/Isaac/Jacob, that is the entire nation. The timing of His birth was when they were no longer “segregated”.
Isaiah 11:1
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
“The Branch” – previously mentioned in Isaiah 4:2.
The Messiah will come from descendants of Jesse.
Isaiah 11:2-5
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

Isaiah 42:1-4
Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
Quoted in Matthew 12:17-20 as fulfilled in Jesus.
“…voice to be heard in the street…” - Jesus would not cause a riot or mob mentality to ensure He had a chance to speak his rights. Which happens frequently in society.
“A bruised reed…” – reed is so easy to break or crush.
“…smoking flax…” – a wick floating in an empty lamp used up of oil, the wick will smoke and be useless until more oil is added. Christ will not use His power to destroy enemies until needed. Beware the Second Coming!
Isaiah 42:5-9
Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
God’s MISSION PLAN for sending HIS SON JESUS
Isaiah Chapter 49 are words directly from Jesus to the people of Israel.
Isaiah 50:6-9 prophesy events of Crucifxtion
Isaiah 52:13-15
Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
“…astonied…” – Hebrew = “shamem” – make amazed, be astonished.“…his visage…” = his appearance.
He was beaten, disfigured, injured, spit at, how much could anyone take. This was all prophesied hundreds of years before it happened.
“…sprinkle many nations…” – salvation will reach to many nations, blessing them. Kings and leaders will not acknowledge the changes as having anything to do related to the Messiah.
Isaiah 53:1-12
For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth….because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Isaiah 61:1-2 Jesus quotes this passage as fulfilled by Him in Luke 4:18
