History of the books:

These two books are letters written to Timothy.  The letters being written from Rome where Paul spent his last years. Paul had met Timothy during his missionary journeys and Timothy had been with Paul ever since. Paul now knows that he is nearing the end of his days and is writing advice to the young minister.  Paul covers a large range of topics. These topics are all familiar to a reader of Paul’s writings.  He will approach each topic elsewhere in his writings.  This may well have been one of the last writings that Paul. The last chapter of 2Timothy appears to contain suggestion that Paul may have believed that as well.
