Chapter 21 – New Heaven and Earth

Revelation 21:1 |
|
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
|
NEW Heaven and NEW Earth.
The old ones are gone and no need for the sea any more. The waters and dry land were in balance on the old earth. What is now keeping it in balance? The Creator sitting at its center!

|
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, … prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
|
The NEW Jerusalem comes DOWN FROM HEAVEN and sets upon the NEW earth!!!! Coming down like a bride coming down the aisle at her wedding ceremony. The first time a groom sees his bride is what this day will be like.

Revelation 21:3 |
|
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
|
Throughout the previous chapters John has seen a “temple” and/or “tabernacle” in heaven. This temple is now on earth. God Himself will reside among men! See verse 22 later in this chapter

Revelation 21:4 |

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
|
This verse is often quoted regarding what it will be like when we get to heaven. Unfortunately, that is wrong. Someday, that will be descriptive of “heaven on earth”.

And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done.

The son while on the cross declared it was finished.
Now, The father from His Throne on earth declares: It is done.

Revelation 21:6b-9 |

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

THE NEW JERUSALEM
IS
THE BRIDE OF THE LAMB
It has been taught for years that the “Bride of Christ” was the church. According to this; that is wrong! The Bride of Christ is BIGGER than “the church”! The Bride is the city of “New Jerusalem”. Jerusalem has always been the center of it all. New Jerusalem and its residents will be the Bride. Who are the residents?
Anyone at this point of Revelation that is a member of God’s kingdom. Starting from the Beginning of Creation to the birth of Jesus (thus before the church age) and continuing through the church age and on through the Tribulation and into and including 1000 years of the Millennial Rule.
To glorify and single out JUST the “church age” is contrary to this passage. An accurate statement would be: The “church age” is one small portion of the Bride of Christ.
NEW JERUSALEM description
How many times have you heard the next passage used to describe “heaven”?
This is a description of the “New Jerusalem” that will come down from the “new heaven” and will sit on the “new earth”.
It is also a description of just the walls and foundations! Imagine what the rest of it will look like?
John will now go back and pick up where he left off in chapter 11:1 describing the NEW JERUSALEM.

And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

Not a second city but the city talked about earlier in chapter.

Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

Light from city like jasper which is clear.

Revelation 21:12-13 |
|
And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
|
Great high walls with 12 gates. Three on each side with an angel at each gate. Each gate with a name. Names being the name of one of each of the twelve tribes of Israel.

And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
|
The walls have twelve foundations. Each foundation had a name of one of the twelve apostles within it.

Revelation 21:15-16 |
|
And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

City was square in dimension. Being 12,000 furlongs.

Revelation 21:17-18 |

And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
|
The wall was 144 cubits and made of jasper. City itself was pure gold, yet clear as glass.

And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.

And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

Each of the twelve gates were of one pearl. Street of the city was pure gold, yet transparent as glass.

Revelation 21:22-27 |
|
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

No temple needed in order to worship. GOD is the central resident! No Sun or Moon needed either. God’s glory will light the nations!
