Chapter 5 – Opening of the Scroll

Revelation 5:1-4

And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

What incredible detailing!  In the “right hand”.  Physical descriptions of God. We are made in His image.  He has a hand!

Him that sat on the throne had a book sealed with seven seals. Written on both sides. Who could open the book?   A “strong” angel was looking for a “man” to open it!

The scroll is of importance to “humans”.  No “redeemed” man in heaven or earth NOR even in the graves was found that would be worthy enough to open the scroll.

Why was John weeping?  He was in Heaven, there must have been a good reason.

Tim LaHaye shares an incredible insight into John’s weeping.

This is a paraphrase from his 1999 book “Revelation Unveiled”.

The prophet Jeremiah had warned Israel they were going into captivity if they did not repent. He also tells them they will return to the land.  God prepares a way for Jeremiah to show that they will return to the land with Jeremiah purchasing land from his cousin with the armies advancing on them.

Jeremiah would not live to see the return to Israel but his legal heir would be able to walk in and based off of his relation to Jeremiah prove his worthiness to request the book to be open and take ownership of the land.

That is what is taking place here in heaven. The sealed scroll is the title deed to earth. As long as it remains sealed Satan has control. There is no one worthy to break the seals….

Revelation 5:5

And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

How important is this verse? The entire Bible is hinged upon the Lamb and THIS Book being opened!  The Lion of the Tribe of Judah, and the Root of David.  This is from Isaiah 11:1.

Revelation 5:6

And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

Which are the seven Spirits of God.  These are the seven lamps of fire as seen in previous Chapter 4:5.

Revelation 5:7-8

And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

28 Harps – musical instruments in Heaven.  Prayers of saints presented before the throne of God.

Revelation 5:9-10

And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

They sung a NEW song to worship God!  No song ever written will ever be able to compare to this one.

Revelation 5:11

And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

Voice of many angels.  10,000 times 10,000 and thousands of thousands. INFINITE amount praising God.

Revelation 5:12-14

Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
