Epistle of the Apostle Peter
Author: Apostle Peter
Peter has been called Cephas, and Simon Barjona (Aramaic for “son of Jonah”) in various Scripture passages. He was a fisherman by trade. He was a married man according to Matthew 8:14-15 and 1Corinthians 9:5.
He ministered primarily to the Jews. Galatians 2:7-9. As Paul states in Galatians, Peter was often seen as “one of the pillars” of the church. However, he was NOT the Head of the church as is taught by certain religious organizations. He was just one of many elders in the church at Jerusalem.
He never did visit Rome. Paul never mentions Peter as being there. We do know that 1Peter is written from Babylon, therefore Peter went east and not to the west. There are “legends” regarding Peter’s death but we do not have any evidence as to how it took place. Jesus made some comments regarding Peter in John 21:18-23 which is all we do know.
These two books are the only two that are known for certain to be written by Peter.
