BOOK OF THE PROPHET JEREMIAH
Introduction
Jeremiah establishes in the first chapter of his writings who he is. Later there cannot be any questions who made the statements that he does. Jeremiah is the son of Hilkiah. He is a priest in the land of the tribe of Benjamin.
The Jews having been a split nation for most of its history. Jeremiah’s messages are to the Nation of Judah. The Nation of Israel having been taken into captivity several decades earlier. Jeremiah was now the Prophet needing to speak to the last Kings of Judah prior to the kingdom being taken and its people going into captivity.
Jeremiah began his ministry the year after King Josiah turned to God (2 Chronicles 34:3) and lived on after the captives were taken to Babylon.
Chapter 52 documents that Jeremiah is left by the Babylonians in Judah.
Five Kings (2 Kings 22 – 2 Kings 25) he prophesied under:

Jehoahaz reigned 3 months 2Kings 23:31-33
Jehoiakim reigned 11 years 2Kings 23:36

See a chart on these Kings and some facts known from scripture in the document called: Kings_of_Judah-Last_ones_before_captivity.pdf.
In total the kings of Judah had 40 years from the 13th year of Josiah’s reign until the Captivity under Zedekiah to listen to the words of Jeremiah.
Jeremiah lived about 66 years after Isaiah. Isaiah had given the nations ample warning of God’s coming judgment. Isaiah told them of their coming captivity and even of their release from captivity. Jeremiah was there to see that captivity take place.
