Judgment upon MOAB

Isaiah 15,16; Jeremiah 48 describe the destruction of Moab for their sins. This occurred along with the 10 tribes of Israel being taken into Captivity.  Within those passages is a depiction of Moab being instrumental in the End Days.  However, Jeremiah does state they will be destroyed as a people. Will the part they play be a simple reference to the geographical land area?

Amos 2:1-3

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime: But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet: And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith the LORD.

2 Kings 3 records Israel, Judah and Edom going to battle against Moab. This particular event is not mentioned.  There had to be quite the hatred between the two nations.

Ezekiel 25:8-9, 11

Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Moab and Seir do say, Behold, the house of Judah is like unto all the heathen; Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim,

And I will execute judgments upon Moab; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Isaiah 25:10-12

For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill. And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands.  And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust.”

Moab’s Role in the End Times

See study on Tribulation – Moab to be a place of refuge.

Isaiah 16:3-5

Take counsel, execute judgment; make thy shadow as the night in the midst of the noonday; hide the outcasts; bewray not him that wandereth.

Let mine outcasts dwell with thee, Moab; be thou a covert to them from the face of the spoiler: for the extortioner is at an end, the spoiler ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land.  And in mercy shall the throne be established: and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and hasting righteousness.

We know this is referencing the end times because God’s outcasts (Jews) are fleeing from someone. We know from other scriptures that they will flee to Edom and Moab to escape the Anti-christ. Revelation 12; Daniel 11:41

Here the Anti-christ is called “the extortioner”.  Extortion is the practice of obtaining benefit through coercion.

In the end, God will sit on the throne in the tabernacle of David.

Jeremiah 48:47

Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.

The nation of Moab has not been reestablished to this day. See the verse earlier in chapter regarding being destroyed. When Cyrus the Great signed his order releasing the Jews, that order WAS NOT just for Jews.  All captives were released.  It is thought by many that by this point there were not enough people left to reestablish the kingdom. The land today is part of Jordan.
