Chapter 12
Daniel’s Fourth Vision - Part 3
The Ending of the Tribulation
NOTE: The last three chapters (10,11,12) should never have been separated. They were separated for clarity; however, the vision and conversations contained in the three chapters are all a part of the same event that Daniel is experiencing.
|
This is a continued conversation from chapter 11
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 1a |
And at that time…
|
Picking up where he left off at the end of chapter 11, After the antichrist has set up his palace.
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 1b |
…shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people:
|
The Archangel of Israel verse. This is establishing the role of Michael as seen earlier in Daniel.
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 1c |
…and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time:
…and at that time thy people shall be delivered,
…every one that shall be found written in the book.
|
There is the modern phrase “you have not seen anything yet!”
The trouble and turmoil that will exist cannot be comprehended. This is now the time they have all waited for: deliverance from their enemies, the Jews WILL BE delivered, but there is still one requirement for deliverance. They still NEED their names in the BOOK!
Daniel Chapter 12 verses 2-3 |
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
|
The Resurrection - some to life and some to death.
This is a passage that SHOULD BE used in a discussion regarding the Resurrection.
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 4 |
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
|
Close the Book and put it away IT WILL BE some time till the end. Then a little “hint” as to what conditions would be like when the “time of the end” occurs
Daniel Chapter 12 verses 5-7 |
Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river. And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that
|
Daniel looked and saw “the other two” from Daniel 10:5-6 having more conversation. Two others besides Gabriel. The man clothed in linen held both hands towards heaven and swore by “…him that liveth forever…”. God the Father would not be talking about himself in the third person. So that rules him out as being the man in linen.
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 7b |
…it shall be for a time, times, and an half;
|
The word used here means a “fixed time or season” “year” – so we get 3 ½ years.
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 7c |
…and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
|
He will not kill them but will scatter them and then his time will be up!
Daniel Chapter 12 verses 8-9 |
And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
|
The book is sealed until the end of time. Daniel was being told that there was (from the time he was getting this vision) a LONG period of time that needed to occur before the end of time.
Daniel Chapter 12 verses 10 |
Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
|
What a great verse to be encompassing it all. Many will accept and become worthy of the white robes in glory but many of those will also go through the roughest of trials as well. It is already expected that wickedness will increase. None of the wicked will be able to understand but only the wise will have what is needed to comprehend.
The last 3 verses of Daniel would establish the timing.
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 11a |
And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and…
|
From the point in time that the Jews have the offering of sacrifice in the temple once again removed…
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 11b |
…and the abomination that maketh desolate set up,…
|
AND
the Anti-christ sets up his own worship in that temple (Abomination of Desolation)…
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 11c |
…there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
|
there shall be 1290 days.
The Tribulation = 7 years
The Abomination of Desolation occurs at the midpoint = 3 ½ years
THIS VERSE IS ESTABLISHING THE DATE FOR THE END OF THESE THINGS TO BE 1290 DAYS FROM THE MIDPOINT
*It is foolishness of man to attempt any further to set the date of this event. God determines that day. It will be a GLORIOUS DAY.
|
Daniel Chapter 12 verse 12 |
Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
|
Blessed are those that make it until the 1335 day mark. A period of 45 additional days.
Daniel Chapter 12 verses 13 |
But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days
|
Daniel is told to go his way and wait until the end. He would rest and then stand in his lot at the end of the days. Daniel would die as all men must die but then he would be there at the end with all the others.
